A talk by Professor Andrew J Scott
Professor of Economics and former Deputy Dean, London Business School

Speaker expertise

Andrew J Scott is Professor of Economics and former Deputy Dean at London Business School and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. His research focuses on longevity, an ageing society, and fiscal policy and debt management and has been published widely in leading journals. His book with Lynda Gratton, The 100-Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity, has been published in 15 languages, is an Amazon bestseller and was runner up in the FT/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award 2016 and Japanese Business Book of the Year Award 2017. His new 2020 book, The New Long Life: A Framework for Flourishing in a Changing World (May 2020 in UK/Dec 2020 in US), considers how the challenges and opportunities of social and technological ingenuity might shape a new age of longer lives.

Across Asia the benefits and challenges of an ageing society are increasingly revealing themselves. Projections reveal the scale of population change underway and the vast increase in the size of the older population. However ageing and the ageing market is far more complex than focusing on projections of numbers of people. Supporting and promoting healthy ageing will be an enormously valuable future industry as will dealing with the sheer diversity of how we age. In this talk Professor Andrew J Scott outlines the developments that are underway both in terms of how we age but also how markets and innovation will support these changes.
